A Little Bit of Everywhere

"A Little Bit of Everywhere" is a documentary about actor Alex O'Dogherty's journey to research the origins of his surname. This research, initiated by Alex's father, follows Alex's efforts to learn more about himself and his search for identity. Throughout the film, we discover that all people are fundamentally immigrants and that deep down we all belong somewhere, but that place is not ours. As Alex tries to find out who he is, he realizes that he is actually a little bit of everywhere. It also points out a sad but true reality: Not all descendants of immigrants are treated equally. This depends on where they come from and their skin color.

The film gives viewers the opportunity to question themselves and their origins, while also discussing important issues such as immigration, belonging and identity. The audience’s experience has often been one of deep identification and awakening to a better understanding of themselves.

The film is shot in a variety of locations, reflecting the expansive nature of Alex’s journey to research the history of his surname.
