Derib: A Life Told in Lines

"Derib, creator of iconic comics characters such as Yakari and Buddy Longway, is working on his new graphic novel "La Promesse", which tells the story of his ascent of the Dent Blanche mountain, a symbol of meaning for his family, at the peak of his 60-year career. The book becomes an in-depth examination of Derib's career and life. Accounts from his family, friends and colleagues, archive materials and family dialogues create an intimate portrait that celebrates Derib's life, artistic legacy and passion for drawing. Derib emphasizes that the power and passion of his drawings are a bridge between generations. With this graphic novel, scripted by his son Arnaud, Derib finally ventures to climb the mountain he considers "his father's". Each climbs Dent Blanche in different ways: Derib with a blank page; Arnaud with a gray rock. Three generations of artists meet at an altitude of 4,357 meters in the Val d'Hérens."
