Echoes from Tian Shan

A group of researchers documents the changing nature of Tian Shan by following a discovery expedition from 122 years ago.

"Echoes from Tian Shan" is a film that documents the current state of Tian Shan, one of the world's largest mountains, by recreating a discovery expedition from 122 years ago. The film follows the footsteps of Russian botanist Dr. Vasilii Sapozhnikov and German geographer Dr. Max Friederichsen, who explored Tian Shan in 1902. A team led by Prof. Dr. Tatiana Saburova, accompanied by filmmaker Patrick Barylla, tries to find the rivers and glaciers from 1902. During this process, with the help of old maps and photos in their possession, they observe how this unique nature has changed. The film offers viewers the experience of following the traces of the past and discovering the impressive landscapes of Tian Shan. The film was shot in the Tian Shan region of Kyrgyzstan and presents the changes in nature over time and the impact of humans on this change to its viewers.
