Set in Rome in the early 2000s, "Familia" tells the story of young Luigi, his brother Alessandro and their mother Licia. Their violent father Franco was imprisoned ten years ago and he had to take care of his family, Luigi and Alessandro. Luigi became a member of a far-right gang in his father's absence, and this situation allowed him to express the anger he had accumulated inside him. However, Franco's release from prison and his desire for his family back poisons everything. Forced to confront his father, Luigi will have to question the traces of his past and his own life. The film shows the audience how a family falls apart due to past traumas and the influence of a violent father figure.
The film was shot in Rome and successfully conveys to the audience the Rome of the period and the dark atmosphere where street gangs reign.
