In 1950s America, Lee and his wife Muriel, who have just returned from the Korean War, move to San Diego to build a new and peaceful life. However, this peaceful life is disrupted by the arrival of Lee's charismatic and troublesome brother Julius. Julius is someone with a mysterious past and a gambling addict. Julius' relationship with the attractive Henry, whom he meets and befriends in Las Vegas, where he goes to gamble, also plays an important role in the film.
