Reading Lolita in Tehran

The story of women's resistance and freedom who secretly read banned Western classics in Iran.

Azar Nafisi is a lecturer at the University of Tehran and brings together her most loyal students to secretly read Western classics banned in Iran. These women remove their headscarves during their lessons and intertwine their lives with the stories of the books they read. Like the heroes of Nabokov, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Henry James, and Jane Austen, these women in Nafisi's living room also learn to dream, hope, and fall in love. This allows us to experience the complexity of the lives of individuals living under an oppressive regime. The film shows the audience the importance of resistance and freedom and the power of literature. Viewers have the opportunity to touch the lives of the characters and understand their experiences.

The film leaves a deep impact on the viewers. Viewers, seeing the difficulties the characters face and how they cope with these challenges, think about what they would do if they were in the same situation. The film was shot in Iran.
