Secrets of the Penguins (2025)

A deep journey into the mysterious and striking world of penguins with BAFTA and Emmy award-winning cinematographer Bertie Gregory.

"Secrets of the Penguins" is a documentary series specially prepared for the 20th anniversary of National Geographic's Oscar-winning film "La Marche de l’Empereur", taking viewers to the never-before-seen world of penguins. Oscar-winning director James Cameron took over this three-part series. The film reveals the secrets of previously unknown penguin communities, their surprising intelligence and tight social bonds. Over a two-year period, BAFTA and Emmy award-winning cinematographer Bertie Gregory went to the penguins' habitats to create this unique documentary. The film showcases the strength of Emperor Penguins' bonds of friendship, the determined lives of Gentoo and Rockhopper penguins, and the incredible talents of migratory penguins that reach deserts and even further afield. Penguin societies and traditions are much more similar to our own.

Viewer experiences with the film were generally positive. Viewers who had the opportunity to learn more about the lives of penguins were very impressed by the documentary's striking images and especially the scenes depicting the penguins' struggle to survive.

The film was shot in places such as Antarctica, South Georgia, and the Falkland Islands, which are penguins' habitats.
