When You Listen to This Song
In August 2021, Lola Lafon spent a solitary night in the Anne Frank Museum in Amsterdam, where the young girl hid with her family and four friends from 1942 to 1944. From this profound experience, a book was born called "When You Listen to This Song," which brings together the life of Anne Frank, the author's search for identity, and the memory of a victim of the Cambodian genocide. Now, Mona Achache is turning this book into a documentary film in collaboration with Lola Lafon. Throughout a night of shooting, Lafon revisits her book and her roots. Through a mix of hybrid images, the film takes viewers on an introspective and universal journey about freedom, Anne Frank's figure, and the power of writing against oblivion.
The film leaves a profound impact on its viewers and sheds new light on Anne Frank's life and history. It also provides a comprehensive view of writing and the power of the word as a means to fight oblivion and make sense of the pains of history.
The film was shot in the Anne Frank Museum in Amsterdam.
