The story of Ellen and her friends begins at the 2019 New Year's party. Ellen is in a relationship with Sebastian, one of her closest friends, however, the situation is complicated by Sebastian's marriage to Eva. Throughout the party, we witness the love between Rolf and Dina, the tension between Mareike and Adam, and Maya's desire for a child. Natalie's indecision and Max's love for Ellen form other dimensions of the story.
