The time has come for the powerful and young King Benjamin to find a spouse. He is captivated when he sees the portrait of beautiful Princess Carolina and sends her his own portrait. However, the self-centered and proud Princess Carolina rejects him. Benjamin decides to win her over and succeeds in working in her castle by disguising himself as a gardener. He learns that the princess was once cheerful and kind, and with the help of music and flowers, he makes her fall in love with him. While their advisors, who want to keep power, suggest that she marry a weak prince, Carolina and Benjamin hastily elope together.
