"Libertate" takes place during the days filled with chaos and panic of the revolution that occurred in Romania in 1989. During the protests against the authority in the city of Sibiu, a militia unit becomes the target of a violent attack, and the situation turns into a bloody conflict between soldiers, militias, security agents, and civilians. Militia Captain Viorel, who tries to survive the siege, is captured, accused of being a terrorist. In this chaotic environment, it is almost impossible to understand who is friend and who is foe. The film's realistic and harsh depiction draws the audience's attention while also making them feel the confusion of that period and the fear experienced by people.
