"Transformation" is set in the 1830s in New Zealand. Our main character, Thomas Munro, while being a soldier, has turned to a religious life and became a secular preacher. He came to New Zealand to serve England's first colonists. However, he soon finds himself among the Maori tribe and is transformed by the powerful Chief Maianui to serve a different purpose. Munro, along with Maianui's daughter Rangimai, travels to the forbidden lands to negotiate with the war leaders. However, he quickly realizes that he is merely a pawn in this game and that bloodshed is inevitable. Munro must decide what role he will play in these events and how valuable his faith is.
