"A New Beginning" tells the story of Angie, who has to re-evaluate her life after the unexpected death of her partner, Pat, whom she had been with for 30 years. Living with Pat in Hong Kong, Angie enters a challenging period emotionally and financially after Pat's death. Pat's family wants to reclaim the apartment they shared after Pat's death. Angie, on the other hand, wants to keep the apartment both to preserve Pat's memory and to maintain her own life. Her friends and chosen family who stand by Angie during this process support her in this challenging period. The film, which tells the journey of Angie gaining liberation and independence, takes the audience on an emotional journey. The film offers a perspective that questions both relationships within the LGBTQ+ community and the concepts of family and home.
The film won the Teddy Award in the LGBT+ category at the Berlin Film Festival, garnering great appreciation from the audience. It also won the Rambal Award at FICX.
