Prior to the 2008 Summer Olympics, during a time when many people left and abandoned their pets, Lang, a former circus motor driver, returns to his hometown after serving ten years in prison. The town has been overrun by stray dogs that have been abandoned by their owners. Lang begins to work on a dog hunting team that allows the dogs to escape instead of catching them. This does not make him popular, particularly with a butcher who blames him for the death of his own son. Lang forms an unexpected friendship with a greyhound for a bounty. These two wounded and lonely souls slowly and painfully find each other in places outside of society. The film stands out with this unique story and characters that attract the viewers' attention.
The shootings were performed in a town located on the edge of China's Gobi desert.
